“Study, Cathedral, Selime, Turkey 2013”

Selime can be found much further down from Ihlara valley. The approximate coordinates for this photograph are 38.301320, 34.258649. In Spiro Kostof’s text ‘Caves of God’, the church there is tentatively dated at 7th century, making it older than most of the other churches in the region.

This photograph shares something of the culture of the time imposing its shapes and forms onto an old, rugged rock. These 1300 year old impressions leave the mind in awe at the first sight. Further down the road there are some old village houses and a cliff with cave dwellings and what looks like to be a cave church. I’m looking forward to my next visit there…

This hand printed photograph can be bought here.
